Mercer Middle Learning Commons

Mission

The mission of the Mercer Middle School Learning Commons is to provide assistance to students and faculty so that they will be effective and knowledgeable users of ideas and information. We are an extension of the regular classroom and are dedicated to providing access to all available forms of media which supports the curriculum as well as personal interests in reading and learning. Through collaboration with faculty, the Mercer Middle School Library Media Staff is committed to assisting students in achieving the highest level of academic success.

Objective

The objective of the library media program is to ensure that all students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.  This objective is accomplished by:

·  Making available a collection of print, multimedia and electronic sources that cater to all learning styles, ability levels and interests of students and providing intellectual and physical access to these materials in all formats

·  Providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas

·  Creating an atmosphere conducive to a positive learning experience

·  Working with other educators to design learning strategies that promote curriculum-based learning objectives
