• Every two weeks, from January 6 – May 21, 2026, each homeroom will have the opportunity to be recognized based on having 95% – 100% of Mercer Raider Scholars who consistently RISE UP, come together, attend school, and show up to learn with determination and PRIDE.
• Each homeroom with the highest average student daily attendance above 95% during each two-week period can win a Dress Down Day on the following Monday!
• NOTE: Our next round of homeroom scholars who RISE UP to our student attendance challenge will be announced on Friday, May 8, 2026, and will DRESS DOWN on Monday, May 11, 2026.

GMAS Tutorial Sessions – Continuing April 13, 2026 (3:00pm – 4:00pm)
Is your scholar prepared for the upcoming GMAS End-of-Grade Assessments from April 20 – May 4, 2026?  If not, to ensure his/her success, continuing on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 3:00pm – 4:00pm Mercer Middle School will offer IN-PERSON GMAS End-of-Grade Tutorial sessions for ELA, math, science and social studies.  Please allow your scholar to participate in these in-person GMAS End-of-Grade Tutorial sessions every Monday through Thursday from 3:00pm – 4:00pm.

Mercer Raider Family and Friends, we would like to keep you and your Mercer Raider Scholar informed of all the academic expectations, support structures, and student accolades for the week of April 6 - 10, 2026:

Gearing Up for the GMAS Family Night (5:00pm – 6:30pm) – Wednesday, April 8, 2026
On Wednesday April 8, 2026, at 5:00pm we will host our fourth Parent Night entitled Gearing Up for the GMAS Family Night.  Come out and receive information about different levels of support that are available for your scholar as he/she prepares for the upcoming Spring 2026 GMAS End-of-Grade assessment(s) during our “Let's Get Ready for GMAS!" Informational Session.  Parents, you will then engage in our Gearing Up for the GMAS: Grade-Level Prep Sessions where you will gain access to content-specific strategies, resources, tools, and test-taking strategies to assist your scholar in preparing for the upcoming Spring 2026 GMAS End-of-Grade assessment(s).  You will also have the opportunity to meet with teachers, receive access to the SCCPSS Parent Portal for updated progress reports, and discuss areas of academic concern. When you attend this event with your scholar, he/she will earn 100 Raider Bucks for being INVOLVED about his/her grades and ENGAGED toward improving them. Yes, your scholar will earn 100 Raider Bucks for attending this event with you.

GMAS Tutorial Sessions – Starting April 6, 2026 (3:00pm – 4:00pm)
Is your scholar prepared for the upcoming GMAS End-of-Grade Assessments from April 20 – May 4, 2026?  If not, to ensure his/her success, starting on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 3:00pm – 4:00pm Mercer Middle School will offer IN-PERSON GMAS End-of-Grade Tutorial sessions for ELA, math, science and social studies.  Please allow your scholar to participate in these in-person GMAS End-of-Grade Tutorial sessions every Monday through Thursday from 3:00pm – 4:00pm.

Mercer Raider Family and Friends, we would like to keep you and your Mercer Raider Scholar informed of all the academic expectations, support structures, and student accolades for the week of February 23 - 27, 2026:

Black History Month Activities (February 2 - 27, 2026) - “Sticks and Stories: Beats. Bars. Black History – A Black History Tribute through Music and Word”
We will continue our Black History Month activities on Monday, February 23, 2026, and will conclude with our Black History Month Program entitled, “Sticks and Stories: Beats. Bars. Black History – A Black History Tribute through Music and Word" for students and parents on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Mercer Middle School from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.  Please see below for an outline of the Black History Month activities:

1. We will have a “Black History Poster" contest in honor of Black History Month. Each scholar may create a poster that represents Black History through the lens of "Voices That Changed The World"  Each teacher will submit his/her scholar's Black History Poster to me via email or in person by Friday, February 20, 2026.  The Black History Month Poster Contest Rubric is below. Judging will occur on Monday, February 23, 2026. These judges will be non-Mercer Raider Staff.  There will be a winner from EACH Grade Level.  Each grade-level scholar who wins will receive a GIFT CARD and Raider Nation School Spirit Gear!

2. In order to commemorate those who had an influence on Black History, we will announce surprising Black History Facts from the Black History Genres during each week outlined below:

RAIDERS RISE UP Student Attendance Challenge

• Every two weeks, from January 6 – May 21, 2026, each homeroom will have the opportunity to be recognized based on having 95% – 100% of Mercer Raider Scholars who consistently RISE UP, come together, attend school, and show up to learn with determination and PRIDE.
• Each homeroom with the highest average student daily attendance above 95% during each two-week period can win a Dress Down Day on the following Monday!
• NOTE: Our next round of homeroom scholars who RISE UP to our student attendance challenge will be announced on Friday, February 27, 2026, and will DRESS DOWN on Monday, March 2, 2026.

This is a special announcement for all 6^th – 8^th grade girls and boys: Are you interested in showcasing your track skills this school year?  If so, please know that Track Try-outs will occur on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 3:00pm – 4:30pm.  All student-athletes are required to have an up-to-date sports physical on file.  If you are interested, please come prepared on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, with sneakers, athletic attire and a water bottle and report to Coach Garrett and Coach Jones!

On Monday, January 26, 2026, please come out and support our Mercer Raiders Girls’ & Boys’ Basketball Teams as we compete in our FINAL GAME against STEM Academy MS at 5:30pm (Girls’) and 6:30pm (Boys’) at Groves High School Gymnasium! Curriculum Parent Night: 8th Grade Promotion & Dual Enrollment Workshop (5:00pm - 6:30pm) - Wednesday, January 28, 2026:
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026 @ 5:00pm we will host our third Parent Night for this school year entitled 8th Grade Promotion & Dual Enrollment Workshop “Let's Get Ready For High School."  During this time, you will gain access to valuable information about 8th Grade Promotion Requirements, High School Choice Programs, and Dual Enrollment through our 8th Grade Promotion and Dual Enrollment Workshop.  You will receive content-specific resources that you can use to assist your child in excelling in his/her classes.  
Savannah State University representatives will provide parents with valuable information about Georgia's Dual Enrollment Program.

SY2025-2026 MAP Math & Reading Testing: Helpful Parent Information Announcement
During the week of December 8 – 11, 2025, our 6th – 8th Grade scholars will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer. This test is administered three times over the course of the school year to measure each student’s individual growth in the areas of math and reading. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students. MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn – whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

S.T.E.A.M. Family Night: Myth Busters Middle School Edition (5:00pm – 6:30pm) – Wednesday, December 3, 2025
On Wednesday December 3, 2025, at 5:00pm we invite all families to join us for our second Parent Night entitled S.T.E.A.M. Family Night: Myth Busters Middle School Edition.  You will test real myths, run experiments, and work together as detectives of truth. Every family receives a Myth Buster Passport and a chance to win prizes when they complete the stations. During this time, you will also gain access to valuable information about our school-wide math and science programs that will increase your scholar’s academic success.  You will also meet with teachers, receive access to the SCCPSS Parent Portal for updated progress reports, and discuss areas of academic concern. When you attend this event with your scholar, he/she will earn 100 RAIDER BUCKS for being INVOLVED about their grades and ENGAGED toward improving them. Yes, your scholar will earn 100 RAIDER BUCKS for attending this event with you.  We look forward to seeing you and your scholar on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 5:00pm for our S.T.E.A.M. S.T.E.A.M. Family Night: Myth Busters Middle School Edition (5:00pm – 6:30pm) – Wednesday, December 3, 2025
On Wednesday December 3, 2025, at 5:00pm we invite all families to join us for our second Parent Night entitled S.T.E.A.M. Family Night: Myth Busters Middle School Edition.  You will test real myths, run experiments, and work together as detectives of truth. Every family receives a Myth Buster Passport and a chance to win prizes when they complete the stations. During this time, you will also gain access to valuable information about our school-wide math and science programs that will increase your scholar’s academic success.  You will also meet with teachers, receive access to the SCCPSS Parent Portal for updated progress reports, and discuss areas of academic concern. When you attend this event with your scholar, he/she will earn 100 RAIDER BUCKS for being INVOLVED about their grades and ENGAGED toward improving them. Yes, your scholar will earn 100 RAIDER BUCKS for attending this event with you.  We look forward to seeing you and your scholar on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 5:00pm for our S.T.E.A.M. Lights, Camera, Action: Family Literacy Night (5:00pm – 6:30pm) – Thursday, October 2, 2025

• Over half of the 62.6 million Hispanics in the U.S. live in California, Texas, and Florida and ROUGHLY 13% of all people 5 years of age and older speak Spanish in the United States.

DEEP Young Author Project: Starts September 15, 2025 – Sign Up Now!

Calling all storytellers, poets, and creative thinkers! The DEEP Young Author Project (YAP) starts the week of September 15, 2025, and we want YOUR SCHOLAR to join us! YAP is a fun, after-school creative writing program where your scholars will explore their voice, share their stories, and connect with other young writers. Led by trained Writing Fellows, each 90-minute workshop is packed with exciting prompts, games, and chances to write about the things that matter most to YOUR SCHOLAR. No grades. No tests. Just your words, your voice, and your imagination.

National Hispanic Heritage Month Announcements: September 15 – October 15, 2025 Announcement:
Mercer Raider Scholars, since 1988, Americans have observed National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15–October 15. September 15 holds special significance in the Hispanic Community as it marks the anniversary of the independence of several countries, including Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Soon after, Mexico and Chile also honor their independence days.

To kick-off our National Hispanic Heritage Month activities we will announce surprising facts every week throughout September 15 – October 15, 2025.

Scholars, DID YOU KNOW…

• In 1968, the Hispanic Heritage Month originally began as a week of celebration called National Hispanic Heritage Week when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the bill into law. Then on September 14, 1989, President George H.W. Bush first declared the 30-day period for National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 – October 15 every year!
• And this is YOUR DID YOU KNOW SEGMENT in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month!

Title I Annual Meeting (Saturday, September 13, 2025 @ 9:00am and Saturday, September 27, 2025 @ 9:00am) and SY25-26 Family Engagement Compacts and Policy Announcement:

On Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 9:00am and Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 9:00am, we will host our In-Person Title I Annual Parent Meeting at Mercer Middle School in our Family Resource Center.  During this time, we will discuss our Title I programs that are focused on your child's academic success. Please plan to attend one of these In-Person Title I Annual Parent Meetings as it will have important information about Title I Program and Mercer Middle School.  We look forward to you attending and participating in our In-Person Title I Annual Parent Meeting on​ Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 9:00am and/or Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 9:00am at Mercer Middle School located at 100 Priscilla D. Calling all storytellers, poets, and creative thinkers! The DEEP Young Author Project (YAP) starts the week of September 15, 2025, and we want YOUR SCHOLAR to join us! YAP is a fun, after-school creative writing program where your scholars will explore their voice, share their stories, and connect with other young writers. Led by trained Writing Fellows, each 90-minute workshop is packed with exciting prompts, games, and chances to write about the things that matter most to YOUR SCHOLAR. No grades. No tests. Just your words, your voice, and your imagination.

Lights, Camera, Action: Family Literacy Night (5:00pm – 6:30pm) – Thursday, October 2, 2025

Mercer Raider Scholars, on Thursday October 2, 2025, at 5:00pm we will host our first Parent Night for this school year entitled Lights, Camera, Action: Family Literacy Night. When you attend this event with your parents, you can earn 100 RAIDER BUCKS for being INVOLVED about your grades and ENGAGED toward improving them. TSA Announcement: August 11 – 15, 2025
Attention Parents and Guardians! Does your scholar want to learn more about TECHNOLOGY this school year? Well, the Technology Student Association, TSA, is the right student organization for your scholar! TSA enhances students’ personal development, leadership, and career opportunities in STEM.  For more information, please ensure that your scholar attends the TSA interest meeting with Dr. Bullard on Friday August 15, 2025, at 2:30pm in Room 2722.

DEEP Young Author Project: Starts September 15, 2025 – Sign Up Now!

Calling all storytellers, poets, and creative thinkers! The DEEP Young Author Project (YAP) starts the week of September 15, 2025, and we want YOUR SCHOLAR to join us! YAP is a fun, after-school creative writing program where your scholars will explore their voice, share their stories, and connect with other young writers. Led by trained Writing Fellows, each 90-minute workshop is packed with exciting prompts, games, and chances to write about the things that matter most to YOUR SCHOLAR. No grades. No tests. Just your words, your voice, and your imagination.

Sports Physicals
Are you interested in showcasing your athletic skills this school year?  If so, please know that all student-athletes are required to have an up-to-date sports physical on file. Please see Coach Jackson on the Bus Ramp during afternoon dismissal this week to get your Sports Physical Packets NOW!

Principal’s STAR Student of the Month
Mercer Raiders, do you emulate Raider P.R.I.D.E.?  Are you consistently being Prepared, Respectful, Involved, Disciplined, and Engaged in your classes?  If so, your teachers may nominate you as the STAR Student for the month of August.  The names of one male and one female STAR student for each grade level will be announced on Friday August 29, 2025.  WILL IT BE YOU?

RAIDERS RISE UP Student Attendance Challenge

• Every two weeks, from August 18 – December 19, 2025, each homeroom will have the opportunity to be recognized based on having 95% – 100% of Mercer Raider Scholars who consistently RISE UP, come together, attend school, and show up to learn with determination and PRIDE.
• Each homeroom with the highest average student daily attendance above 95% during each two-week period can win a Dress Down Day on the following Monday!
• NOTE: Our first round of homeroom scholars who RISE UP to our student attendance challenge will be announced on Friday, August 29, 2025, and will DRESS DOWN on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
